I've spent many years as adviser and a business coach and therefore have had time to observe the characteristics that set business owners and the successful entrepreneurs apart from those who neglect. I've taken condensed and these observations or even those struggling to stay afloat find the key traits they need to work on.
Decisiveness. Many people agonize over decisions way too long and thus never make any advancement growing their business. Successful business people understand how to make choices.
Assemble details about your alternatives from sources that are trustworthy. If you're able to find case studies see or talk to somebody that has actually taken the step you're looking at when you can find them. Take note of the upside and downside of every one of your choices to ensure they're clearer to you. Assign a weight or a value to each impact, both negative and positive. Then use that information to make the best choice possible. Recall, not making a decision is exactly the same Change management process thing as deciding to fail. Not every decision you make have the outcome you desire or will likely be successful. But sitting around waiting to be 100% certain won't get you very far either. Company is not for the timid.
Optimism. Is the glass half empty, or half full? That's a classic analogy, but because of this it's one people easily comprehend. Successful business people utilize the energy of positive thinking. Nothing can empty wanted energy like focusing on all the things that aren't exactly as you would like them to be. Nearly every situation or condition in life has both negative and a positive side. Which are you going to choose to concentrate on? Being aware of the negatives to help you prepare for them isn't the same thing as dwelling to them. Plan for the worst but expect the best.
Resourcefulness. The trail toward anything worth having in life will have obstacles on it. They don't sit and bemoan that it is there, they work with it not against it. I have seen businesses fail as the owner ran into something that was more difficult to do than they originally expected. Remember, anything worth having will possess a cost. That cost might be learning a new ability, asking for some help or getting out of your comfort zone. It could mean a tiny correction in course or a giant leap of faith. What it does not mean is that it is time.
Successful business people realize that company isn't without risk, that is why there's reward in it as well. They use that knowledge to keep their business moving forward and to assist them overcome any anxieties they've.
